More "Famous" White & Red Finds
Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling 2007...7.99
88/100 - Wine Spectator. This
is another no oak, no malolactic wine. To stop the fermentation,
Pacific Rim uses their centrifuge, which separates the yeast
and the wine - this concludes the fermentation. They leave
a good amount of carbon dioxide in the wine to create a lively
feeling to the wine - although it’s not spritzy. The resulting
wine is moderately sweet and refreshingly low in alcohol -
less than 9% - with flavors of pineapple and peach. Pacific
Rim Sweet Riesling brings perfect balance to all fiery fare
- especially Thai, Szechwan and Caribbean cuisine - or simply
enjoy as an aperitif. (California)
Murphy-Goode Sonoma Chardonnay
2006...9.99
90/100 - Famous Score. Subtle
sweet oak and spice complement the aromas and flavors of bright
apple, tropical fruits, and spiced pear. This Chardonnay is
both complex and is the wine that’s not unlike mom’s apple
cobbler: there’s lots of fruit, a buttery undercurrent and
a hint of vanilla and spice at the back. (California)
Kenwood Sauvignon Blanc 2007...10.99
87/100, "Best Buy" - Wine Spectator.
“This wine shows lively varietal aromas of grass, Meyer lemon
and freshly cut honeydew melon. Fresh and crisp, with lively
body and a lingering finish. Best served chilled, this Sauvignon
Blanc makes an excellent aperitif and will complement higher-acid
dishes including salads and vegetables.” (California)
La Carraia Sangiovese 2006...10.99
88/100 - Wine Advocate. “Brilliant
ruby-red in color with loads of ripe blackberry, strawberry
and currant on the nose. The plush fruit flavors are deliciously
integrated with subtle hints of mocha, tobacco and oak spice.
Full and rich with soft tannins, the lush layers of fruit
and spice are backed by lively acidity.” (Italy)
Girls in the Vineyard Cabernet
2005...17.99
90/100 - Famous Score. The “girls”
are the vines, sustainably farmed in the Amber Knolls vineyard
in the Red Hills AVA of Lake County. The Girls in the Vineyard
fruit flavors and aromas are well focused and out front, with
lots of cherry and cassis. Oak? It’s there, but you’ll have
to concentrate to detect it. This is truly a cab from another
era, before Robert Parker came to dominate the conversation.
You’ll find this wine to be an eminently satisfying purchase,
especially come dinnertime. (California)
